Skull Face

Quick casual look, great for the Summer. For me, what makes a look perfect for the Summer season, are lightweight clothing and comfortable shoes. For this look I made the print of the blouse to main focus with staple jewelry pieces to go along.

Shoes- Creepers by T.U.K
Necklace- Tilly's

I remember during my tween years, I use to be so obsessed with skulls and visiting Hot Topics every time I came to visit the States was always a must..I quickly grew out of that phase. However, what stuck with me was my love for the grunge era and blending that into my personal style. The top I'm wearing in this look is possibly my first all over skull print top I've had in years...and I love it so much mainly because of the cool detailed design inside of the skull face. I wore this look a few weeks ago while hanging out with my sister who was visiting the city.  I honestly didn't plan on shooting this look but I thought it would be good to show some of my simpler everyday looks. On a lazy day or when I have errands to do, I usually throw on very easy going pieces that I can quickly put together when on a time crunch. Somehow, I always run out with my jewelry...jewelry is always a must for me!

Forgive and Forget

Vest- Forever 21
Skirt- Forever 21
Shoes- Creepers

Me in such a short mini skirt is always the funniest thing ever, mainly because I unfortunately always choose the most windy days to wear them and lets just say there's a lot of holding and trying to securing that I don't flash someone on the street haha.
For this look, I kept it pretty casual in a basic tank top in a colour I've never actually worn before. It's like a mix between green and blue but I can't quite figure out what colour it is exactly. This look is pretty much prefect for warm days and is very easy to wear both dressed up and dressed down. For me, I paired it with a tribal inspired skirt that I randomly picked up while browsing through forever 21 and to be honest, it's not typically the kind of item I'd wear but I thought it would be interesting to see how many ways I could wear it plus it was at a good price. Of course, my creepers had to be apart of this look because nothing is complete without creepers lol. Well I'm off to the run to start my day, so much to do with so little time.

Breathe

Top- Zara
Kimono- Nasty Gal
Cowboy Fringe Vest- Vintage
Shoes- Creepers
Sunglasses- Zero UV

Wore this look when it was really nice and sunny out and what better way to celebrate that than to wear a nice flowy kimono. Black and white combinations are always very classic and adding a bit of print is always a great surprize element and can elevate a simplistic look is no time. For this look, I combined a white texture cropped top from Zara with a high waisted fitted pants for a more modern retro inspired look. By adding the a bohemian inspired kimono and a slight pop of colour in my cowboy vest, I was able to transform the look to give more depth and appeal. Its been awhile since I've shot a look with me wearing my sunglasses but now that its getting a bit more sunny, I'm happy to share more looks incorporating sunglasses. I hope your week is going good so far and thanks for visiting!

Bruja

Oversized Vest- H&M
Top- DIY combination of two sweaters
Concho Hat- Forever 21
Shoes- TUK Creepers

Giving a witchy vibe today on the blog, with lots of dark elements and a random pop of royal blue. I don't think I can ever really get over this faux leather vest from H&M that I got a few months ago. It's such perfection and goes well with basically anything I wear it with...just breathtaking. For this outfit, I really wanted to experiment with layering two of my lightweight sweaters for a weird grungy mash up. So, I basically just wore the back part of my black sweater as the front to give the effect of a harness layered on top of sweater with tiny perforated looking holes. I really like this look because it's pretty much very easy and simplistic but with the little tweaks I made here and there, it brought it up a notch yet still remained casual enough...or at least what I view casual as haha.
Anyways, it's a snowy day today in New York...I was seriously praying for them to cancel classes because going to school on Mondays is always such a drag! I'll be sure to update as much as I can...my schedule has been so crazy for this semester but for live time updates you can always follow me on Instagram @marfarlane.

Chelsea Piers

Faux Leather Vest- H&M
Top- Made by me
Maxi Skirt- Similar or Here

Yesterday was a very gloomy/ misty day in New York and I decided to take a walk to  Chelsea Piers to dream....think....clear my head. I love taking little walks around the city especially to peaceful places like the park or pier. The pier was a little more quiet  than usual when I visited yesterday, because it was raining and almost everyone stayed indoors. Though it was raining, it actually wasn't that cold, so I was able to wear a shear flowy maxi skirt and a cowl neck top with lots of volume that was made by me.
For some reason, I usually never wear any of the things I make, but this top seemed so fitting for the whole look plus, it was pretty cozy so why not!?. I threw on  my favourite oversized faux leather vest for a little more layering and you can see another way how I styled it (here). I really love the play between the soft element of the maxi skirt against the grunge/bourgeois feel of the vest...it's an interesting play on volume and textures which is something I always love experimenting with. Hope you all have a great weekend and I can't wait to share a lot more upcoming posts with you this week

To Kill A Mockingbird

Oh how I love black and white ensembles...

Chunky Knit Sweater- Vintage
Skirt- Chic Wish
Beanie- Zara
Shoes- Creepers (T.U.K)

Wore this look on possibly one of the coldest days here in New York so far..and would you believe me if I said that this white chunky knit sweater kept me so warm its amazinggg. This sweater was actually something my mother gave me when I first moved to New York last year and its's literally helped me through the grave transition from fall to winter. I love how crisp the white of the sweater is and how much of a warm fuzzy feeling it gives. I've worn this sweater with a collared top layered underneath, with pants, shorts and even a maxi dress. It's pretty versatile and thats why I love it so much.  For this post, I wore it with a a black slighted flared mini skirt and black stockings with my beloved creepers.
I have been wearing hats a whole lot these past few weeks so be prepared to see back to back posts with me having a hat glued to my head hahaha. Oh and the title of the post has nothing to do with killing animals...and everything to do with a 1960s fiction novel that I had to read in high school.
