Let Me Live That Fantasy

Top and Skirt- H&M
Shoes- Deandri Archie Oxfords at Deandri

Today's my birthday! I'm so happy it's finally here and I'll be celebrating it with family. This outfit is an example of what I'd wear to dinner tonight... a loose fitting silhouette with the perfect faux leather jacket. The blouse in this post is literally giving me life! its so beautiful, silky, and easy to style with pretty much anything. I could see myself styling it with dark skinny pants and platforms or with some cute faux leather shorts. I also got the skirt I'm wearing around the same time I bought the top and its a simple circular skirt with these awesome evil eye motif printed all over it. I think why I love the skirt so much is mainly because of its light weight quality plus, it's easy to wear. I decided that mixing the print of the top and skirt would work perfectly because the mixing of the two isn't harsh or clashing with each other but instead, they're complimentary to one another. I wore my Deandri oxfords with the look mainly because I wanted to tone the look down a bit to make it a little more laidback and casual. Anyways, I'll post the outfit I decide to wear today for my birthday, you can keep updated on Instagram @marfarlane

Grey Day

Kimono- H&M
Shoes Archie Oxfords from Deandri

Just a giving a quick update on a look I wore sometime during the week after a long day of classes. The weather was very misty and cloudy at 11:00 am it looked like 5 am, which I thought was very strange....New York weather is so unpredictable and weird. Anyways, I wore the quickest look that I could pull together since I had to wake up early for my classes and the best thing to drag out of my closet during those crunch times is a classic grayscale look. To add a little more light layering to the mix, I wore my fringe kimono that I'm so in love with from H&M and as expected, I could help but play and shimmy with the tasseled fringe all day hahaha. I'm actually getting into wearing more of my other jewelry a lot more lately because I got so caught up in consistently wearing my tattoo choker and any choker as a matter of fact. I love all my chokers and would wear them all the days of my life but as a result of that I've neglected all my other really great jewelry pieces. So, the necklace Im wearing in this post is actually from this vintage jewelry store I use to go to all the time back home in Jamaica where I'd splurge into buying unique jewelry pieces. I just love the way this particular necklae is constructed and the rusted silver makes it vintage perfection!

As The Autumn Wind Blows...

A mixture of hard and soft elements to create a comfortable inspired men's wear look.

I'm back to wearing my favourite accessory, my O-ring!

The perfect oversized knit cardigan to keep me warm for chilly days.

Top- French Connection UK
Pants- Zara
Deandri Archie Oxfords- Deandri  or Karmaloop

Today's I'm showing how I combined the soft feminine pieces to create a men's wear inspired look that is perfect for going just about anywhere....in my case, I was heading to classes. All I wanted was to wear was something that could easily be a slouchy look, yet still pulled together enough to get me through the day. I've been channeling this kind of styling a lot late because it's a really comfortable and effortless look, which are two major elements I've been considering a lot since starting back school. I'm finally back to wearing my o-ring and I couldn't be more satisfied...I had stopped wearing it in the summer because it was just too much in terms of it being around my neck during the extremely hot summer days so, since New York is pretty much back into the full swing of cool fall breeze, I'm never gonna really take this o-ring off! hahaha. I decided that pairing this look with my archie oxfords and ankle socks showing just the right amount of leg peaking out, will definitely bring my men's wear inspired look to life...plus! they're super cute <3 Don't forget you can keep up with my real time updates by following me on Instagram @marfarlane

Omen

Image below is legitimately my inspiration for this post, it's from the 70's horror film called "The Omen"

Black Romper- Vintage
Acid Wash Oversized Denim Jacket- Thrift
Shoes- Archie Oxfords by Deandri

I know what you're think... why am I in a graveyard and why is this post named after a creepy movie? Well, let's just say inspiration comes to me in very strange places. I've been using a lot of my feel time doing research, visiting galleries and site seeing around New York and funny enough, I've bucked up on a lot of interesting places that I didn't know the even existed here. The images above were taken at a historic cemetery in downtown NY. Fun fact about me is that I actually love horror movies...anything that makes me paranoid after watching it is basically perfection to me, ha. So to recreate a classic image from the movie, I chose to also go with an all black look but with hints of subtle colours here and there.

Figment Of Imagination

Distressed Denim Shorts-Nasty Gal
Shoes- Deandri Archie Oxfords (get them here)

So when I went back to Jamaica, I raided my mother's closet because a) her closet is like a homemade boutique and b) I ALWAYS find great pieces in there that I can easily mix with my own clothes/style. One of my favourites that I took from her is this very soft, romantic-esque lazer cut top in ivory white. I absolutely love lazer cut tops so when I was able to make the steal for this, I happily took the opportunity. What I like to do whenever I have to style very romantic and girly pieces, I always tend to mix this with a more hardcore grunge-esque look because I feel like it embodies my style a lot. So, I wore my cut off shorts with black sheer tights to give off the grunge element that I was aiming for. I'm getting back into the groove of being back in New York and have been checking out a lot of new spots...mostly downtown, I'll share some of those in a picture post very soon.
