No Church In The Wild

One of those days when wearing full head-to-toe black is all I need to get me through the day.

Sweater- Forever 21
Trousers- Zara
Hat- Zara

For this look, I'm slightly channeling a more grunge, almost "no care" side of me. As you can see, I'm wearing zero make-up hence this look was shot on a day I wanted to be laid-back and comfortable without a care in the world. Sometimes I have days such as these, where it's totally okay to dress down a little. I'm wearing one of my favourite sweaters from last fall…the cut-outs at the shoulders make for a great interesting look and that patch cut-out of the cross is golden.

I chose to pair it with a slouchy trousers and flat oxfords, mainly because it made me feel so comfortable and since it was a little windy the addition of the hat was the perfect touch in tying this overall look together. The fall weather is definitely in full swing now in NY, so expect to see a lot more layering and sweater combinations here the blog.

Icebreaker

Dress- Motel Rocks
Kimono- Vintage
Dolman Coat- H&M
Biker Jacket- Nasty Gal

Wearing loads of layers today on the blog. It isn't getting any warmer here in NY so I have to constantly come up with new creative ways to styling from my wardrobe and still be able to feel warm and comfortable.... this look is an example of that. I believe I featured this beautiful dress from Motel about a few months ago but back then, it was pretty warm and sunny so I thought I'd rework the styling and incorporate it in a more Winter inspired look. I don't think I can quite remember how many layers I was wearing, I just know that I had around two thermal blouse and a high collared blouse underneath the dress. Along with those, I wore my favourite boho fringe kimono that doesn't quite play a role in me being warm but just added an extra touch of a bohemian/rocker vibe.  Of course a biker jacket would have been in the mix of it all and this perfect one from Nasty Gal did just the trick. I didn't really go too hardcore on accessorizing mainly because there was already so many element in the look already.
I had a very relaxing weekend just sketching and getting some work done, I hope you all had a great weekend as well. Thanks for visiting my blog, I have lots of looks coming up this week so stay tuned for those.

Bruja

Oversized Vest- H&M
Top- DIY combination of two sweaters
Concho Hat- Forever 21
Shoes- TUK Creepers

Giving a witchy vibe today on the blog, with lots of dark elements and a random pop of royal blue. I don't think I can ever really get over this faux leather vest from H&M that I got a few months ago. It's such perfection and goes well with basically anything I wear it with...just breathtaking. For this outfit, I really wanted to experiment with layering two of my lightweight sweaters for a weird grungy mash up. So, I basically just wore the back part of my black sweater as the front to give the effect of a harness layered on top of sweater with tiny perforated looking holes. I really like this look because it's pretty much very easy and simplistic but with the little tweaks I made here and there, it brought it up a notch yet still remained casual enough...or at least what I view casual as haha.
Anyways, it's a snowy day today in New York...I was seriously praying for them to cancel classes because going to school on Mondays is always such a drag! I'll be sure to update as much as I can...my schedule has been so crazy for this semester but for live time updates you can always follow me on Instagram @marfarlane.

Tessellate

Top- Zara
Pleated Faux Leather Skirt- H&M
Shoes- Grail Platforms by UNIF

It's so strange it see how much my personal style has been tweaked since one year ago when I started this style blog. I started off very grungy and a little less polished but now, though I'm still highly inspired by 90s grunge...I have found a more suiting style that in my opinion is very edgy, still a bit grungy but in the right amount. That's the whole reason I started this blog, I really wanted to see how much my person style would evolve when I moved to New York, based on my experiences change in lifestyle and simply by just growing up. I believe evolution is one beautiful thing.
For this post, I was trying something a bit new by playing with the organic movement of neoprene. I've never really owned anything made out of neoprene so I was really excited to build an outfit around this top. I love how sculptural the top is so I wanted to play with with it against faux leather textures so I wore my favourite black faux leather skirt with a blue faux leather jacket for an extra pop of color.

Johnny Ramones

Johnny Ramones Band Tee- Forever 21
Shorts- Nasty Gal
Coltrane Boots- Jeffrey Campbell

So I'm finally back in the groove of things here in New York...my trip back home in Jamaica has been really great but I was kind of missing not being able to blog as much as I use to. This is one of the last looks I shot while being in Jamaica, wearing one of my main go-to looks. I wore a Johnny Ramones band tee tucked in one of my favourite black shorts. I wore a white faux leather and sheered vest over this ensemble, to add a bit of depth to the overall look...plus the black and white constrast always seems so beautiful to me. I pulled for my coltrane boots for this look to add a more edgy detail...with tiny gold accents here and there. I'll be back to showing more Winter looks since I'm back in the freezing cold of New York. Anyways, I hope you have a lovely week!

Remember You Like It Was Yesterday

Top- H&M
Shorts- Zara
Necklace- Glowwormshop

My days in Jamaica are officially coming to a close, and I can honestly say that I this time coming back home has been really great for me personally. Captured even the smallest moment to carry back with me in my heart back to New York. Oddly, I've been wearing a lot of all black looks as its coming closer to the end of my trip...maybe I'm mourning the death of my Winter vacation, I suppose hahaha. Though I've been pairing up a lot of all black combinations, I still try to keep very light layers that will still allow me to enjoy the Island breeze while still containing a summer look for those who are afraid of colour. I've been wearing mostly flat shoes here because..it's kind of pointless walking around in my usual 6 inch platforms.
I miss New York a tad bit, surely not looking forward to getting back to the cold weather but we'll see how it all plays out.

Sweet Escape

Black and White Cross Mini Dress- Forever 21
Floral Mesh Top- Vintage
Fringe Kimono- H&M

I've been wanting to share this floral mesh top for the longest time and I've been wearing it with different outfits a lot but this is one of my favourite outfits I like it the most with. It's literally beautiful whenever its layered with a top underneath and its also very perfect for the summer time because its lightweight and  has all these holes in it that forms a really cool floral pattern. I know I've probably shared this Forever 21 cross dress like a million times here on the blog but I simply just really love it and I'm not quite over it just yet, cause I can think of sooo many other ways of styling it. I love the very dark ethereal aspect that this outfit gives and its also like I'm some type of lost witch.
